CAR CARE TIPS
Call John's Auto Shop at 612 869-5256
1. Have your battery, belts, and hoses checked.
2. Change your engine oil. You should be doing this anyway.
3. Timing belts. If you are at the recommended mileage for a timing belt replacement, you should consider getting it replaced. You know what will happen, the car will be loaded up and ready to go on that vacation and it will break at the worst possible time. Seriously, if you are at the recommended mileage, replacing it before it breaks is usually much cheaper than after it breaks.
4. Cabin Air Filters. Most cars today have a cabin air filter. It works just like your furnace filter in your home. It filters the air entering the inside of your car, it may be a good idea to have it checked or replaced.
5. Have your anti-freeze checked, for its condition and level.
6. TIRES. Many accidents could have been avoided if the tires actually had some tread on them. If you are driving in heavy rains or snow, a worn out tire can easily lose traction causing loss of control. A tire is considered worn out if it has 3/32 of an inch of tread left on it.
7. Wiper blades. For a very little investment you can actually see where you are going.
8. Tune-Ups. A lot of cars use platinum spark plugs which greatly extends the spark plug life. Many platinum plugs advertise a life of 100,000 miles. If your vehicle has the original spark plugs and your mileage is 80,000 miles or higher you may want to have them checked. Although there aren't a lot of tune-up adjustments you can make on today's vehicles, you can pay attention to the signs of a poor running vehicle. Does it crank over longer than it use to? Is the check engine light on? Does your vehicle run rough or shake while at idle. If you answered yes to any of these questions you may want to have your vehicle checked. One more thing, I don't think gas is going down anytime soon, and if your vehicle is doing any of the above, it could be greatly reducing your fuel mileage.
